An Annual Professional Development Day to Benefit the Masonic Learning Center for Children in Nashua

"Vocabulary Instruction for Students with Low Level Decoding Skills" This presentation examines the rationale and research principles of vocabulary instruction with practical applications.  Participants will learn tools and techniques to optimize word study opportunities within a multisensory structured language lesson such as Orton-Gillingham or Wilson.

Presenter: Barbara Wilson, M.S. Ed.

"Sight Words You Can See" Instead of using the typical approach of asking students to learn the irregular spelling patterns by rote memorization, Sight Words You Can See makes a connection between the irregular spelling patterns and the way the words are suppose to sound, using imagery, mnemonics, and humorous stories to make long lasting impressions for students.

Presenter: Penny Castagnozzi- program author

Penny Castaggnozzi has a degree in elementary education and has devoted her efforts to the diagnosis and treatment of reading disorders since 1991.  As a reading therapist in an urban elementary school, she worked alongside Nancy Telian and helped pilot the Lively Letters Program with students that had varying degrees of reading difficulties.  As co-founder of Reading With TLC and Telian-Cas Learning Concepts, Inc. Penny has been key to the development and implementation of the Reading with TLC seminars.  She has supplemented her on-site and off site Reading with TLC seminars with professional development training seminars for various educational institutions, including the Learning Disabilities Network, the International Dyslexia Association, Massachuetts General Hospital, MGH Institute of Health Professions, and the Massachuetts Speech and Hearing Association.
